Bringing New York to Florida with the Ligature 28 Design Symposium
As President for the University of Florida Graphic Design student club, voxGraphis, I managed our annual design symposium, Ligature 28. Ligature is a three-day-long event featuring two world-renowned designers who; jury an exhibition, lead design workshops, and present public lectures. As project manager, I coordinated the activities of voxGraphis officers and members to ensure the event was well funded and ran smoothly.

Ligature 28 is a student-run design symposium at the University of Florida. It consists of a gallery exhibition of juried student work, lectures by internationally recognized designers, and workshops for students to attend. This year we were so excited to have Alexandra Zsigmond + Eddie Opara as our guest designers!

THE JURIED SHOW
Bringing together Alumni, Faculty, Students, and Friends.
One of the most celebrated components of Ligature is the juried show of student work. This is the only organized exhibition of design work during the entire year. Internationally-renowned designers, Alexandra Zsigmond and Eddie Opara, curated the nominations and juried the 30 finalists. In partnership with Ligature directors, we presented over 120 entries to the judges for consideration.
Throughout the process, I provided leadership and worked closely with the directors to organize officer help, delegate tasks, print and hang vinyl, paint, and install the work. During the exhibition opening, I supervised volunteers who ran a pop-up shop and refreshment station for guests. Over 200 alumni, students, faculty, and friends came together to celebrate the hard work and talent of the student designers.
LUVLines is Southwest's monthly internal publication distributed to communicate company-wide news, highlight accomplishments, and share event photos and encouraging stories. LUVLines reaches over 50,000 employees. I designed spreads for the June, July, and August articles.
In the six months preceding the event, I advised and supported the student group Treasurer in acquiring funding in for Ligature 28. This included a tedious process with the University of Florida Student Government. Additional funds were raised through fundraising and private donations. Ultimately, we had an event budget of $3,000.
WORKSHOPS AND LECTURES
EVENT PROMOTION
Rallying the design community.
voxGraphis partnered with AIGA Gainesville to achieve maximum exposure for the event. Marketing and engagement efforts included contacts with AIGA chapters across the state, a social media campaign, and on-campus wall graphics.
Event-specific t-shirts and the pop-up shop provided event mementos and additional fundraising opportunities.
